Anand padded along the bank of the river, his ears filled with the ever-increasing roar of the waterfall. He lifted his head and watched the water hurl itself over the drop-off to the ground below. The water at the base of the fall churned and boiled. He shuddered, thinking of how bad it would be to end up stuck in one of the merciless eddies of water. Even a full-grown cave lion like he would have to fight hard to escape were he ever caught.
Enjoying his immunity, the big cat sat down, leaning over to dip his chin into the icy cold water. His tongue flicked out and he lapped at the liquid, purring at the pure taste of it. Glancing up and around, he wondered if now was a good time to fill his belly. He sure was hungry...

Rysk shivered as he wrapped his long tail tighter around his slender body. Oh, he couldn't wait until winter passed. Though it didn't warm up too much in summer at least it was better than nothing. The miacis opened his eyes and peered out of the hollow tree at the waterfall pouring into the river below. He enjoyed the sound and found it soothing....but what was this?
Rysk eyed the young cave lion that was drinking from the pool the waterfall had carved. OH drat! His brow furrowed at the thought of a cave lion moving in. That was just what he needed. Hmph! His fur frizzed up as he shimmed along the nearest branch to get a closer look. Suddenly a michevious grin spread across his face....
The young Miacis took a flying leap from the branch aiming to bounce onto the lion's shoulders than right back up into a tree across from the one he was currently perched in.

Anan was sitting there, minding his own business, watching the water tumble down into the pool below, when a weight struck him between his wide shoulders. Completely caught off guard, he jumped and let out a squeak of surprise.
His paws, already close to the edge of the bank, slipped as he landed, sending Anand right into the icy water. He had no time to take a breath before he plunged in. The current seized him and dragged him along and he floundered, feeling one haunch scrape against the bottom of the river. His paws flailed and he managed to get his head above water and gulp in air. Still splashing, legs flapping in all directions, he struggled to propel himself toward the bank.
He didn't know how to swim. He'd never learned! Was he going to drown? Oh, what a horrible way to die! One flailing paw slapped against the bank and he flexed his toes, driving the claws deep into the ground. Hauling himself closer, he repeated the maneuver with the other paw. Dragging himself from the water, he bolted a short way into the trees, shivering, his short pelt streaming water.
He shook himself hard, spraying water everywhere. Oh, what a close call. Water... he shuddered. It was okay to drink, but he never again wanted to find himself immersed in it again. Only after a time did he remember the circumstances that had sent him falling into the water. Something had hit him... a small furry something. And most of the small furry things he knew of... Anan glanced up into the canopy, ears folding back in annoyance.

Rysk collided with the lion and he let out a cry of success as he leapt back into the trees. He was without a doubt the most fearless of creatures, the most bravest of-
A cry of horror slipped past his teeth as he turned to see the large cat flailing in the water. It was clear that the other couldn't swim and while Rysk hated the idea of becoming dinner he certainly didn't want blood on his paws. "Hang on, hang on!" He scrambled along the branch of a mossy tree, slidding into a vine which he began to chew violently. He was just about done when from the corner of his eyes he noticed the soaking cat pull himself back onto the bank. Oh...
The young cave lion turned to look up at the young miacis with a withering look. Oops.... "Eh...heh, heh. My bad. I didn't think I'd struck you that hard. I'm Rysk....yea, three guesses how I got my name." He scrambled to a lower branch to get a better look at the cat but kept himself far enough away in case the other was intent on trying to chase him higher up the tree.
