Cold and grey had the days become but it was certainly nothing new. They had been this way ever since Thyre was a cub and she expected it to be this way for decades to come, if only to grow colder and grayer. The creature at her feet twitched, sound hissing from it's mouth as it shivered the last of it's strength in cold and fear. Startling blue eyes gazed wide up at the Smilodon and she half-wondered if it was a cub...though she'd been on the earth many years and knew from it's size that it was almost full grown.
The snow was falling in sheets now and a low growl rolled from Thyre's throat. She knew what this strange beast was. This beast that was covered in the pelt of a dire wolf even though it was not. Man. Like hermit crabs and tortoises in the warmer pockets of the south these creatures housed their naked bodies in protective coverings. In the case of Man, it was the pelts of other animals. Thyre was surprised they had lived this long. Even her grandfather spoke of these creatures. How could something so fragile manage to exist here?
Her paw poked and prodded the creature as a strangled cry emitted from it's lips but like most men, it could not speak in any tongue that she could understand. Disgustingly frail. She didn't expect much would come of these mutated freaks. As the winters grew longer and glaciers moved ever farther south, these pathetic things would die out. Shame though, in some regards she supposed, after all it was nice to eat something she didn't have to dig through thick hair, hide or feathers to get to the succulent flesh underneath. All she needed to do was unwrap it. Thyre smiled. Indeed she was merciful and would put this creature down.
------------------------ Thyre gorged herself as much as she could, knowing her body would need the fuel. She had to leave parts of the man however as his paws and lower limbs had grown black with frost. Full and fairly content, she set to cleaning herself before preparing to return to her cave. She eyed the bloodied mess of pelts, trying to decide if she should drag some back to pad her den.

Smothered gray sky, blistering wind, blankets of white snow falling across the ground. A typical day in the high mountains. A hell-ish environment according to some. A perfect day according to Sintara.
Walking with ease through the deep snow due to her wide paws and sure-footing, the white and gray female homotherium serum, a big cat with not so large canines. She wasn't looking for anything in particular, perhaps if she crossed paths with a small animal she could make a meal, maybe strike up a 'conversation' with another creature. Her cold heart beat mightly in her chest as she quickly made her way up a small snow drift and sat upon a buired rock, the freezing cold beating against her thick fur futilily, for neither the snow nor wind could reach into her skin. This was her enviroment, she was the top predator as far as she was concerned, ready to everything this mountain had to throw at her. Apparently, it decided to give her an earthy Smilodon today.
She could smell that horrid scent of human blood, her nose wrinkling at the very thought of eating one of those spindly, weak creatures. She could understand killing one, the cat did it all the time, but to eat it? "Despicible." Sintara stood upon her muscled legs and took a leap towards the beast that was cleaning itself from its 'kill', then proceeded to walk towards it, casually, gracefully, her expression calm and not suggesting anything but. "Hello. I see you managed to catch yourself a...human." The she-cat spoke in a voice that seemed infused with a purr, pleasant and unchallenging, coming to a stop a few feet from the smilodon female and looking between the blackening carcass and her as she waited for an answer.

A clawed paw turned the bundle of pelts over as she sniffed them. Frowning Thyre turned to leave. The pelts would line her den well but they smelt too much like human. She could clean the blood off but it would take ages for the scent of man to drift from the furs and she didn't want to attract that much attention. Man had a strong and distinct scent and while she had no qualms about displaying herself as a man killer, she preferred to keep to herself.
Thyre paused, her body tensing as her fur stood on end to some unseen threat. She was not alone. The smiladon whirled around to see a small homotherium that had muttered something. Her ears flicked back as her eyes narrowed at the younger cat that was now approaching her. Great....company. The one thing she did not want right now. Muscular shoulders rolled forward in a slow, sinewy stretch.
"Hello. I see you managed to catch yourself a...human."
One of Thyre's ears flicked forward. There was something hidden in that statement though she wasn't entirely sure what it was. She lifted her right paw and picked a small bit of gunk from between one of her toes, letting the silence stretch between the pair before she bothered to answer. "I have." Did the other female hope to share in the kill? There wasn't much left and she didn't look to underfed to Thyre's eyes. Was she lonely? Thyre couldn't remember if Homotherium congregated in clans or not.
"Is there something I can help you with?"

Sintara surpressed a smirk as she watched the female Smilodon whip around with fluffed out fur, quietly curious as to the way it kept flicking its ears. It was almost humoring, but she wasn't arrogant enough to laugh at the mobile tufts.
It took some time for the brown splattered female to answer back and Sintara knew it was purposefully drawing it out. Clearly she didn't want to be bothered speaking to the smaller homotherium but the silver she-cat rarely considered others interests. Though the female did know how to play. Her reply gave Sintara a mixture of annoyance and admiration; Obviously she didn't know what she was capable of and Sinatara gave her the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, she wouldn't have to show any displeasure she would feel.
"Is there something I can help you with?"
"No actually. I appreciate your hospitality though, my dear cousin. But..." Sintara's icy blue eyes twinkled but her expression remained cool. ", that human blood is awful putrid and it was all over your paws and snout. It does have a tendency to linger, doesn't it?" The leopard spotted cat smiled almost too pleasantly and sat down in the snow as if she had no intent of leaving and was completely relaxed, even though she had to look up into the teal eyes of the earth feline.

Thyre watched the other female out of the corner of her eye as she continued to lick her claws clean. She new enough of others to know that this one was looking for something but she wondered if the homotherium even knew what she was seeking from the smiladon. Hopefully it wasn't a fight...Thyre had just eaten and would've preferred peace but if it came down to a battle she at least had the size advantage.
"No actually. I appreciate your hospitality though, my dear cousin. But... that human blood is awful putrid and it was all over your paws and snout. It does have a tendency to linger, doesn't it?"
Cousin? Thyre raised her eyes at the use of such an informality. She wasn't particularly pleased with the femme's comment's either. She really wanted to start something but Thyre was a patient creature and not easily riled by words. She smiled sweetly at the other, her lips pulling back of her expansive canines to return the gesture. "It fades...like all things. And after all is the honey not in the hive?" Some things were worth enduring for awards such as the succulent flesh she'd just dined on. This was far from her first human kill and she knew several good ways to remove the scent.
Despite her early feelings she was enjoying this homotherium's wit. Normally she found conversation boring and tedious but this was different...a game almost. "My name is Thyre. Pray tell, do you enjoy the glacier as your home or are you visiting these frozen wastes?"

Sintara kept a cool, lazy composure but was keeping close tabs on the smilodon. She had a tendency to rile up others, which was often her intent, just to try their patience and self control. Unlike most, this one was holding her own quite well and seemed pleased with the conversation, which was contagious. All annoyance was overtaken by admiration and a flicker of pride for the earthen cat.
Ignoring the human remains being slowly buried by the piling snow, Sintara cocked her small head at the female who called herself Thyre. It was a clever response of hers concerning the hive and honey, obviously she had intellegence. The homotherium could use that. Giving her shoulders a little shake to dislodge gathering snow, Sintara held her toothy smile and kept her eyes on Thyre's. "Thyre...Thyre...a very interesting name."Sintara tested the name on her tongue until she was sure she had it, then a look of surprise and humor overtook her expression. "Oh dear me, I'm so rude! My name is Sintara, Thyre, and I do enjoy the glacier though it is not my home. I wander across these mountains rather than settle in a single place. What of you? You don't seem to have the fur for the terrian, cousin."
